First of all I always wondered when you
did your 1st session with Vasco, if you guys knew you were
going to write history. Was there inmediately 'magic in
the air'?
"The first time I met Vasco was in the spring of 1977, at
the Modena's train station. He was a friend of a longtime
buddy of mine, who was drummer in my first band. At the
time, nobody of us was a pro: Vasco was a dj in one of the
first fm radios in Italy - Punto Radio - and I was completing
my service in the Army. No one could imagine the future,
but on the train to Milan, (we were goin' to realize our
first demos ,and a recording studio was a dream!) I've been
playing his acoustic guitar and he said to me: "Damn a good
player!"
Which concert with Vasco outside Italy do you remember
particularly?
"Many of those were great,we had beautiful gigs in Munich,
Berlin , Paris…but the really first concert abroad I remember,
was in Vienna (1985), so exciting,with other bands, I felt
like I was at the Madison Square Garden. Still today, I
love to play outside Italy, also with my band. I would love
to play in Holland with my band."
In 1987 you played with Vasco on the SOS Racism concert
in Paris. What do you remember of that show?
"It was a great experience. We started from Milan with a
Private Jet, reaching the concert's location, outside an
old castle near Vencennes, with the Limos, like the real
Rockstars. A beautiful Ancient Hotel near the Arc de triomphe,
and many pop rockband of the era, like Spandau Ballet. But
the concert was playback."
The international tour in 1991 started in Toronto on
14th april…what do you remember of this show? Why only Toronto
and no more other shows in Canada or the USA (for example
New York)?
"It was fantastic, especially we were at the Westin Harbour
Castle Hotel in Toronto, the best in town for a week, making
a little rehersal sometimes, and having much fun with some
Italian-American chicks from Detroit, very nice!!!! No other
shows, because the management didn't use the usual channels
of the classical Italian singers of the past for the immigrants."
Diego told me that this show in Toronto has been registrated
on video……will it ever be available on the market?
"I don't know, I have a lot of material shot with my private
camera, but unofficial."
For the fans it's hard to collect all the tourdates from
the european tour of 1991. Do you have those tourschedules
completely available?
"Yeah, I have the original tour raiders of the 1991 Europe

I saw you playing in Utrecht, The Netherlands…do you
remember that place? What do you remember more of the 1991
european tour? Is there a difference in playing in Germany,
Holland, Belgium or France?
"I remember when we did arrive in Amsterdam at 4 am with
the tour bus, coming from Paris, and it seemed to be Noon!
I remember the show in Utrecht and the wooden venue. I have
many beautiful memories of that tour: small clubs with a
hot audience…..foolish things…..a beautiful blonde from
Munich following me across the whole Germany and Switzerland
drivin' her car!!!! WOW!"
The Roskilde show in Danmark was cancelled because of
soundcheck problems… I can imagine you really wanted to
play there after such a long travel, weren't you?
"More or less, as in major open air concerts, there 's not
the possibility to make a serious check."
Do you think Vasco will tour some day through Europe
again?
"I hope so."
Finally, for some kind of reason Vasco doesn't have an
international career like for example Eros Ramazotti or
Zucchero. What's your opinion why he hasn't?
"Because he didn't interest. A few years ago, Pavarotti
called him to sing "Sally" with Elton John at the piano,
but he didn't go.

Prima di tutto mi son sempre chiesto quando
hai avuto il primo contatto con Vasco, se sapevate che avreste
scritto la storia. Ci fu da subito una certa "magia nell'
aria"?
"La prima volta che incontrai Vasco fu nella primavera del
1977 alla stazione di Modena. Era un amico di un mio amico
di vecchia data, il quale faceva il batterista nel mio primo
gruppo. A quel tempo nessuno di noi era un professionista:
Vasco era dj in una delle prime radio libere d'Italia, Punto
Radio, e io stavo terminando il mio servizio militare. Nessuno
poteva immaginare il futuro, ma sul treno per Milano (stavamo
andando a registrare i nostri primi demo, e uno studio di
registrazione era un sogno) stavo suonando la sua chitarra
acustica e mi disse: "Sei un chitarrista dannatamente bravo!".
Quale concerto di Vasco fuori dall' Italia ti ricordi
in particolare?
"Molti sono stati stupendi, abbiamo fatto dei bei concerti
a Monaco, Berlino, Parigi...ma il primo vero concerto all'
estero che ricordo fu a Vienna (1985), così eccitante, con
altre band, mi sentivo come se fossi al Madison Square Garden.
Ancora oggi amo esibirmi all' estero, anche con il mio gruppo.
Mi piacerebbe molto suonare in Olanda".
Nel 1987 hai suonato con Vasco al concerto SOS Racism
di Parigi. Cosa ricordi di quello spettacolo?
"Fu un'esperienza eccezionale. Partimmo da Milano con un
jet privato, raggiungendo il luogo del concerto, appena
fuori un vecchio castello vicino a Vencennes, con le limousine,
come vere rockstar. Un bell' Hotel antico a due passi dall'
Arco di Trionfo e molte band rock e pop del periodo, come
gli Spandau Ballet. Ma il concerto fu in playback".
Il tour internazione del 1991 iniziò a Toronto il 14
aprile...cosa ricordi di questo show? Perchè solo Toronto
e non altri spettacoli in Canada o negli USA (New York ad
esempio)?
"Fu fantastico, siamo stati per una settimana al Westin
Harbour Castle Hotel di Toronto, il migliore della città,
facendo qualche prova ogni tanto e soprattutto divertendoci
con delle ragazze Italo-Americane di Detroit, molto bene!!!!
Nessun altro concerto, perchè il manager non utilizzò i
classici canali per i cantanti italiani del passato per
gli immigrati".
Diego mi disse che lo show di Toronto è stato filmato...Sarà
mai disponibile sul mercato?
"Non lo so, ho un sacco di materiale ripreso con la mia
videocamera privata, ma non ufficiale".
Per i fans è difficile radunare tutte le date del tour
europeo del 1991. Hai il programma del tour completo?

Ti ho visto suonare a Utrecht, in Olanda...ti ricordi
quel luogo? Cosa ti ricordi ancora del tour europeo 1991?
C'è differenza nel suonare in Germania, Olanda, Belgio o
Francia?
"Mi ricordo quando arrivammo ad Amsterdam alle 4 del mattino
col tour bus, provenienti da Parigi, e sembrava di essere
a mezzogiorno!
Mi ricordo il concerto di Utrecht e il palco di legno. Ho
tanti bei ricordi di quel tour: piccoli club con pubblico
caldo...cose da pazzi...una bella bionda di Monaco che mi
seguiva lungo l'intera Germania e la Svizzera guidando la
propria macchina!!!!! WOW!".
Lo spettacolo di Roskilde in Danimarca fu cancellato
a causa di problemi nel soundcheck...Posso immaginare che
volevate veramente suonare là dopo un così lungo viaggio,
vero?
"Più o meno, come nei più grandi concerti all' aperto, non
c'è possibilità di fare delle prove serie".
Pensi che Vasco suonerà ancora in Europa un giorno?
"Lo spero".
Per finire, per qualche ragione Vasco non ha una carriera
internazionale come ad esempio Eros Ramazzotti o Zucchero.
Qual è la tua opinione sul fatto che non ce l' abbia?
"Perchè non gli è interessato. Qualche anno fa, Pavarotti
lo chiamò per cantare "Sally" con Elton John al piano e
lui non ci andò".
